sustainability

As a business, it is important for us be mindful of our environmental impact and try to reduce our footprint to the maximum, as well as promoting responsible living and better consumption systems by showcasing local businesses, handmade and sustainable products, hosting talks and workshops encouraging people to DIY and upcycle more.

This year are proud to announce that we will be putting in place a brand new recycling system on Bohemia Place, including food waste recycling. We are working with our traders towards becoming a zero waste market and venue. The food waste and general waste from the market will now be sent to make renewable energy, and no waste will end up in landfill.

All the waste from the market will now be collected by First Mile, a waste management company responsible for collecting and disposing of all rubbish in a professional, secure, and environmentally-friendly manner. The food waste and compostable packaging will be turned into green energy and nutrient rich fertilizer, the general waste will be used to produce hot water and heating, the recycling will be recycled, and no waste will end up in landfill.

We will have brand new bin stations throughout the market for customers to use, but traders will also be required to dispose of their waste correctly.

We will have signs around the market but it is important that all our traders are well informed about our new recycling system in order to be able to guide the customers.

So, what goes where?
